I decided to remove the stock heater boxes on my 1976 Super Beetle Convertible project. It's doubtful that I'd ever be able to bring heat into the cabin of that car. Also, it's not going to be a daily driver, just a fun vehicle for nice-weather outings. Using J-pipes instead of heater boxes takes weight off the rear axle, which is nice because the car has the 1904cc engine built by V-Dubstore with aluminum case, bigger and heavier than the magnesium stock version. Removal of the heater boxes was slightly cumbersome because all of the exhaust had to come off. But reassembly was straightforward with a good fit to my Bugpack Mondo exhaust system. To me, personally, the engine also looks better without those bulky heater boxes.
